Prior to 2023, South Korea used a variety of age calculation methods, including counting age, yearly age, and full age. This led to social confusion and inconvenience, especially when interacting internationally, so on June 28, 2023, the Full Age Unification Act came into effect, unifying all legal and administrative age calculations to full age.

How to calculate your age
Age of majority is an internationally accepted method of calculating age that starts with your birth date and adds one year to your age based on your birthday. You can use a simple formula to find your age in years.
[Current Year] - [Birth Year] = [Age of person whose birthday is past]
If your birthday hasn't passed, you can subtract -1 from the number above. For example, let's say you were born in 1990. Your age would be 2024 - 1990 = 34. If your birthday is May 15 and today's date is May 20, then your birthday has passed and you are 34 years old. On the other hand, if today's date is May 10, you're 33 years old because your birthday hasn't passed yet.
