[August Quest] Restore your mental health with a Digital Detox!

The August quest theme for Jell-O's seventh season is Digital Detox, which some of you may have heard of.

What is a digital detox?

A digital detox is an activity that involves taking a break from or reducing the use of digital devices such as smartphones, computers, tablets, TVs, and the internet. The practice was started as a way to be aware of our over-reliance on digital devices in today's society and to restore our mental and physical health. Benefits of practicing a digital detox include reduced fatigue and stress, better concentration, better sleep, and improved social relationships.

Take a retrospective

I'm on an iPhone, and the iPhone has a feature called Screen Time that analyzes how much time you spend in any given app.

I was curious about my mobile habits and realized that they were really unplanned, messy, and much longer than I realized... Some days I'd play games for over an hour because I couldn't sleep... Some days I'd chat with friends... Some days I'd spend all day on social media... And a lot of it was before bed.

Change your habits

I realized I needed to change my bedtime routine. I had a mobile cradle next to my bed and it had become a habit to watch Shorts and Lilith before bed, but I took the plunge and removed it and moved the charging cable from my bedside. Instead, I put some of my favorite books on it (maybe I'm staying up late to read this time...?).

At first, I found it frustrating and annoying that I couldn't look at my phone, but then I realized that I enjoyed the story and fell asleep faster and slept better than if I had watched a video. So I'm going to make a rule and stick to it, even if it's only for a certain time of day.

October 10 is Mental Health Day

October 10 is Mental Health Day, and I'm thinking of doing the "go without my phone for a day" self-challenge if I can. I'm really curious to see what experiences my day without my phone will be filled with🥰.
